Bad Night On The Roads

It was a terrbile night on GTA roads. A young man died after his vehicle was hit by a truck at the intersection of Hwy 50 and Queen in Brampton. The damage was extreme and not much was left of the car. In the east end a woman was struck and killed by a cargo van on Warden Ave. It was still dark when she exited a bus and crossed the road. Police say she was wearing dark clothes and may have been listening to music with headphones. The bottom picture is from and accident on Eglinton Ave near McCowan. Police were actually in the area and watched as the driver reversed at high speed and drove through a window at McDonald. Thank God this didn't happen during the day. The driver failed a road side breath test and was handcuffed and taken away by police.

So much carnage in one night. It was just crazy out there. My prayer to the victims and families. Too much reality TV for one night. I'm glad to be home. That was a long shift.

One Dead and Five Others Shot in Two Seperate Incidents

I don't usually work weekends but I just had a feeling this might be a busy one. I went out on Friday night and got a nice little story about three guys arrested with a Tec 9 machine gun in Rexdale. Thanks to the TAVIS units for showing me the gun and congrats on the pinch. I rushed that back for the 10:55pm news update. They were happy to have it. So with my sleep a little off I decide to go out again Saturday night and go fishing for overtime. It was quiet until about 3am. Police got a call for a shooting on Bay st. that quickly turned into a homicide. Cops are looking for 2 stretch limos and a black s.u.v. seen leaving the scene. A gun was recovered just down the street from the victim, most likely discarded by the shooter.

About 15 minutes later cops in 41 division got into the action with multiple shooting victims on Ellesmere Rd near Midland Ave. Two victims were rushed to Sunnybrook and one was taken to St. Mike's. It didn't take long before two others showed up at other hospitals. So a total of five victims in this bit of gun play. The last photo shows the usual suspects Jeremy, John and Pete at the Bay St. homicide. You'll find them at most yellow crime tape lines around the GTA on weekends.

The Secret Life of a Durham Police Officer

Durham Regional Police are investigating a fatal stabbing in the parking lot of an Ajax mall. The stabbing happened on the corner of Salem and Kingston Rd. A man in his twenties was airlifted to hospital but died from his injuries. Another man was also injured. As per normal life in Durham the local cops are saying very little about the incident. Eight hours after the fact they were barely admitting that anything even took place when contacted by phone.

Meth Lab In Midtown

Police are treading carefully as they explore a suspected meth lab in the Avenue Rd. and Lawrence area. They were called to the house by neighbours complaining about a bad smell. When they entered the house they found chemicals used in the production of crystal meth.

"We found an active crystal methamphetamine lab. It's a highly dangerous process that goes on to manufacture these drugs. What we found was an active process and two cylinders which are of great concern to us ... they're highly explosive," Toronto Police Staff Inspector Mario Di Tommaso explained.

The good news is I found this bagel shop just north of here on Avenue Rd. It's just north of Woburn Ave on the west side of Avenue rd. You have to stop and check this place out. The bagels are fantastic and the chicken samosas are really good too. Best of all they are open 24 hours a day.

30+ Officers Decend on Glendower

It always gets my attention when I see over 30 officers heading out to execute a warrant. This time it was Scarborough’s Glendower Circuit and I would guess the extra manpower was due officer security in the housing complex. Some area residents are known to be hostile toward Toronto Police and a large security perimeter was setup around the complex. Residents still came out to heckle police as they searched the residence.

Three males were taken into custody including 2 young offenders. Police also seized a loaded .40 caliber handgun.

Rock and Roll

A large truck carrying a load of granite lost its load and rolled over on the 400 southbound ramp to the eastbound 401. The accident happened about 3:30am Friday morning and the ramp will be closed through the morning rush hour. The driver was not hurt. Some granite fell on the highway below and caused flat tires on passing cars.

Vaughan Road Shooting

I started early tonight for a shooting on Vaughan Rd. I don't have a
lot of details on this yet. I heard that a man was carried out of a
house by his friends. ETF attended and cleared a house in the area.
One man was in police custody but I don't know if he was charged. I
managed to get back in time for the new 10:55pm newscast following The
National. I'm sure we'll have more details in the morning. The victim
was vital signs absent when rushed to the trauma centre.

Sentinal Rd. Homicide

Police in 31 Division are investigating a homicide this morning after a 24 year old man was shot as his girlfriend looked on. She made a frantic call to 911 reporting three suspects had fled the scene. The man was pronounced dead by paramedics and the area remains taped off while police gather evidence. Police say the man may have known the suspects and that they have some good leads in the case. This is homicide number 47 for TPS in 2009.
